According to Tesla leader Elon Musk, the configurations of the Model S and X with the 75kWh battery go out of the range. With the Model S and X, only the more expensive version with the 100kWh battery is available for the time being. This makes the two models more expensive at around 20,000 euros.

If you want a Model X or Model S with a 75kWh battery, you have to order it for Sunday night, says Musk . If nothing else changes, the price of the cheapest Model X in the Benelux goes from 99,000 to 117,000 euros, while the Model S goes from 91,000 to 113,000 euros. Tesla adjusts prices and battery configurations regularly, so the actual impact of the step is not yet known.

The Model 3 also uses a 75kWh battery in the most expensive configuration, but that is a physically different battery with cells of a different size, Teslarati discovered two years ago. The Model S and X remain in the range, says Musk. The Model 3 has been on sale since last year and European customers are expected to receive the first copies in March . The Model S and X have been on the market for years.

It is speculated that this change has to do with a future upgrade of the Model S and X. These would then be equipped with the new 2170 battery cells instead of the current 18650. The new cells offer a higher energy density and are already being used in the Model 3.
