Find a Question:
The AM1 platform with Athlon apu
AMD uses its Athlon and Sempron brands in recent years primarily for its budget processors. With the latest crop Athlons and Semprons the term “budget” gets new meaning. The newest Athlons and Semprons are especially designed for efficient systems to tinker. Together for little money They are complete soc s with virtually all the functionality of a desktop system on board.
AMD has with the new processors found a way to use technology it has developed wider deploy. For mobile devices In the Athlons and Semprons are namely used Jaguar cores, AMD also bet in his Kabini-socs for tablets and budget laptops. The Jaguar cores are combined with 128 graphics core next-cores that take the Graphics processing on their behalf.
Because the Athlons and Semprons not based on an existing desktop architecture processors do not fit into existing socket. AMD has therefore designed a new socket, the socket FS1b, better known as the AM1 socket. Because almost all functionality in the socs is built, the motherboard may be very simple.
Due to the low price of the socs the AM1 platform should be a cheap alternative to Intel processors and the Bay Trail cheapest Haswell-Celerons and Pentiums. The new AMD socs have been from about thirty euros available; mother boards cost about the same. Tweakers received from AMD’s new Athlon 5350 and that the new AM1 platform can compete with Intel’s Baytrail and Haswell platform.
