Andrey Rudenko, a resident of the U.S. state of Minnesota, has caught the idea of ​​creating such a plant 20 years ago. After some time, he created his own huge RepRap 3D-printer using community RepRap, Arduino-kind platform for 3D-only printers.

It should be noted that Rudenko not yet fully completed the construction of its own architectural printer, but the author of the project hope that the final version will be used to print a two-storey house measuring 10 x 15 meters.

Andrew fired up this idea about 20 years ago, when the world was not powerful computers and special software that allowed a person to create a machine which he had dreamed. But now its 3D-printer is capable of printing concrete layer width of 20 mm and a height of 5 mm. The mixture of concrete and sand, which is used by the 3D-printer, does not freeze instantly, but ample time to process all earned.

Rudenko believes that the printing technology used here is different from the technology of the same company Contour Crafting that his printer creates a natural continuous texture of fine-grained concrete on the outside of the structure. According to the author, when the printer completes its work, the finished product does not need to conduct external finishing works. And while there is no need to follow the rules in the concrete layers 25 x 10 mm, which is a basic requirement for the use of 3D-printer from Contour Crafting. Layers on the printer RepRap 3D «can make almost any size.”

Thus Rudenko said concrete when creating print no need to use additives that may ultimately reduce the cost of the final work.
