Find a Question:
The center of our galaxy is similar to peanuts
Perhaps one of the key challenges faced by scientists if you want to know more about the universe, or at least of our Galaxy, is the difficulty (or impossibility) of choice of the most successful places where one could watch the interested area of space . One of these areas of interest to astronomers became the center of our galaxy the Milky Way, where the concentration of stars is so great that the infrared light emitted by them without any problem going through their surrounding dense haze of dust and gas.
Using the VISTA telescope of the European Southern Observatory, the scientists were able to make a more detailed picture of what it looks like center of the Milky Way. Scientists now agree that the X-shaped structure at certain angles closest resembles peanuts.
“We found that the inner region of our galaxy seen from the side is shaped like a peanut in shell, and on top – a highly elongated plane,” – says Ortwin Gerhard, one of the authors of the study.

The computer model
“This is the first time that we were able to clearly and accurately see what is at the center of our Milky Way. Further computer simulation is carried out by our group and other researchers showed that this form falls under the description of a barred spiral galaxy (“bar”), whose basis is the net accumulation of stars, “- he added.
