The first impression is important: a person decides before it realizes

As you know, the first impression of the person is based on his appearance and behavior. New research has shown that it occurs before we have time to think about it.

Researchers from Melbourne say they can predict a person’s emotions on the graphical representation of the electrical process in the brain. And people may not even know that his brain had already decided. Scientists hope that the results will help them learn more about impulsive decisions.

The study led by Dr. Stefan Bode from the School of Applied Psychology in Melbourne and Dr Carsten Murawski University of Melbourne (Australia). Using the method of electroencephalography, experts measured the electrical activity of the brain of volunteers as they looked at various pictures. The subjects were shown pictures of food, scenes of everyday life and status symbols like cars and money.

After the EEG test again showed the same photos and asked questions for each of them. For example, asked what impressions they left, and what made me think.

Decoding brain activity helped researchers predict which solutions are most likely to take the test after seeing.

We found that when viewing photos in the brain occurs coding decisions with reference to time, and without the knowledge of the audience. In addition, our results show that certain images encourage people to think about the present or future – told researchers.

Brain activity of participants was recorded before they learned about the survey, followed by the decision.

According to the researchers, the results will help to better understand the impulsive behavior of a person, especially if it is caused by advertising tips, which is rich in the modern world. For example, you can see the processes occurring in the brain of a man who is trying to get rid of gambling addiction, under the influence of advertising.

Our results show that even if such a person is trying to ignore the ads, his brain can unconsciously process information and return to the earlier model of behavior.

The researchers say that the same success can be adjusted impulsive behavior. For example, images that refer to the future, you can set the mind of man to a specific scenario in the future.

The study was conducted with the participation of experts from the University of Cologne in Germany. His findings were published in the journal PLoS One.

Previously, other researchers have found a mechanism for on-off consciousness of man.
