The formable world of 3D printing: Shapeways




Of all Dutch products or services in the market of 3D printing is Shapeways perhaps the best known player. The company is certainly a pioneer: since 2008, consumers can be ordered 3D-printed objects. In this episode we go in Eindhoven along with Shapeways and see how the objects are printed. Which printing techniques the company uses this and what materials are printed? And how does the production process like?

Shapeways began in 2007 as part of an incubation of Philips. In 2008, the site goes live and Shapeways split off from Philips. In order to grow the company is looking for investment, which will eventually in America. In 2011 Shapeways then moves to America and opens its headquarters in New York. In early 2013 the company has also opened a printing plant in New York, where there is space for 50 3d printers.
