The global average connection speed is now more than 3 Mbit / s





According to the latest quarterly report by Akamai , provides innovative solutions that average global internet connection speed for the first time exceeded the mark of 3 Mbit / s. The company also reports that in the last year the share of mobile traffic has nearly doubled and continues to grow very rapidly.

As usual, the company has collected all the information about the world of network connections, their types, availability, and security. It turned out that in the period between the fourth quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013 , the average speed of the internet world has increased by 4 percent – from 2.9 Mbit / s to 3.1 Mbit / s. Annual growth in this case was 17 percent.

The report also specifies a list of 123 countries and regions with the highest growth seen increasing speed of the Internet – from Oman, where the rate increased by about 1.4 percent, to Iraq, where the rate increased in recent years by as much as 122 percent. The company notes that the increasing speed of 117 countries on the list are mainly occurred in the past quarter, indicating the lowest growth in Kuwait, where the average speed increased by only 0.7, and ending with Guatemala, where the increase was 75 percent.

As you can see below, in 8 of the 10 countries, there is a double (compared to last year) increase in the average speed of the Internet:

As for the mobile data traffic , there is still more interesting. Akamai preparing statistics based on the data of Ericsson, which has a presence in more than 180 countries around the world, and whose customer base is represented by more than one thousand different networks. On the basis of these data is seen double-digit growth in the gap between the first quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013.
