The Netherlands has most rapid connections in Europe




In the Netherlands, 44 percent of connections at speeds of more than 10Mbit / s. This puts the Netherlands at number one in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to figures from content delivery network Akamai.

Akamai logo In the third quarter of 2013, the average global internet speed was 3.6 Mbit / s, in the Netherlands was 12.5 Mbit / s. That is an increase of 23 percent from a year earlier, while the global average rate of only 10 percent. The rate of 12.5 Mbit / s is the highest of all countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa; Netherlands Worldwide is on the fourth place.

It is the actual measured speeds of user connections to the Akamai servers, and not the theoretical maximum speed. The figures are not representative, but do give an indication as Akamai’s content delivery network for a large number of websites. Include Facebook is a customer of the company.

Netherlands has not only a large number of connections at high speed, also the peak rate measured with 39.6 Mbit / s is relatively high. 39.6 Mbit / s Netherlands takes the ninth place. Hong Kong is at location 1, at a rate of 65.4 Mbit / s.

Meanwhile, the number of DDoS attacks off: Akamai detected in the third quarter of 218, against 318 in the previous quarter, a decrease of 11 percent. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which under the name EMEA is often regarded as one area, however, the number of DDoS attacks increased.
