The oldest file sharing service RapidShare has warned of the impending closure. Service was not able to transform its business and could not stand the competition. RapidShare terminates in March 2015.
One of the most famous and popular for many years, file-sharing services was launched back in 2002, quickly rose to prominence in the market of services for storing and sharing user files. Like many other similar services, often it was used as a place for storing and sharing of copyrighted materials, so a lot of times, became the subject of legal proceedings.
Unlike Megaupload service RapidShare decided to work in accordance with applicable law. In 2012 was introduced proactively monitor uploaded files. Later that same year, set a limit on the amount of publicly downloads: free you can download 1 GB per day, for paid accounts limit of 30 GB.
In the future, the company tried to re-brand and position itself as a cloud storage, but it did not help. In 2013, followed by a 75% reduction in staff in the past year has been closed free service. In 2014, services such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, repeatedly to reduce the cost of their services and increased the amount of disk space, so to compete with them RapidShare was not under force.
