Piriform has officially confirmed that the famous CCleaner program has been hacked, bringing together information about 2.2 million users.

If you are a user of the program, there is nothing to worry about because the versions that have been hacked are limited compared to the huge popularity it enjoys.

What are the damage caused by the breach?
According to the report published by Cisco’s Discovery Detection Unit, malware in the program does not directly harm the system but encrypts and collects information that can be used later to damage the system.

The information collected by malicious software includes the name of the device and the list of installed programs, including Windows updates, the list of running processes, and the MAC address of the network adapter.

What are the affected groups?
Fortunately, this malware seems to have affected only a limited set of program versions, and is limited to:

Users who rely on the 32-bit version of the software (not the 64-bit version)

Users who have installed CCleaner version 5.33.6162 or CCleaner Cloud version 1.07.3191.

The good news is that the program does not automatically update, and many users rely on a 64-bit version.

Have you damaged my device?
First you should check the version you are using on your computer by running the program and checking the version number that appears in the top right hand corner.

If your version is older than 5.33.6162, you are not affected, but we recommend installing the new update manually.

Also, if you have version 5.34 or later, you are protected, but if you update the software from 15 August to 12 September and use a 32-bit system, your device is damaged.

My device has already been damaged, what do I do?
If you are a bad luck category and your computer is already infected by this malicious software, there are some solutions that can help you overcome this problem.

First you can restore the system to pre-August 15 through the backup, after which you must run an antivirus program to make sure that the backup is intact and free of malware.

A radical solution is to reinstall a new version of Windows again, which is the only way you can fully guarantee that you can overcome this damage.
