TomTom builds Action Camera




TomTom comes with the Bandit-action camera. The device can film in 1080p and is waterproof. Sensors in the camera automatically mark highlights, which should facilitate the editing of the captured videos.

According to TomTom’s Bandit the first action camera with built-in media server. Therefore made movies do not have to be downloaded to a computer before they can be edited. The sensors in the Bandit record speed, altitude, acceleration and g-forces. The miniature camera is also equipped with GPS and may be coupled to the sports watch of the company so that the heart rate is known. With all this information, the camera automatically marks the highlights of a movie. Users can also mark a climax with a button on the camera.

The camera housing is waterproof. The battery pack also includes the storage memory and is detachable. The unit can be connected via USB 3.0. The connection to smartphones is via WiFi and Bluetooth; images are stored on a micro SD card. Through a smartphone app, available for iOS and subsequently for Android, users can edit videos. By shaking the phone is made of an automatic edit highlights. The app also acts as a viewfinder; Bandit itself has no display.

The camera has a 16 megapixel CCD sensor, 1080p recording with 30 or 60fps. In 4k frame rate is limited to 15fps. Slow motion movies can be shot in 720p or wvga. TomTom offers several accessories, including a remote control, GoPro adapter and floating cover. The camera will be available in May. The retail price of 429 euros.
