TomTom works with Mozilla Firefox OS together to navigation




TomTom has teamed up with Mozilla and telecoms provider Telefonica. Business cards come therefore available to users with a Firefox OS device while some Telefonica customers with such a phone is also turn-by-turn navigation received.

Firefox OS already had a longer supplied card application, Lord Maps from Nokia. As part of the collaboration is now also kaartenapp Maps Online TomTom available in the Firefox Marketplace. This can be downloaded from Thursday to all users of Firefox OS device. Nav Online, an app for turn-by-turn navigation with voice guidance, is initially only to customers of Telefónica in certain markets.

Telefónica was in 2013 the first telephone company in the world that went on to sell a Firefox OS device. Meanwhile, the telephone sets with Firefox OS released in fourteen countries. Which lie mainly in Central America, a region where smartphone penetration is still relatively low.

TomTom gave no financial details of the cooperation. The company is trying to make itself less dependent on PND sales. Thus, TomTom map information to Apple for Apple Maps. Android was the company recently with a new app that allows users to navigate free 75km.
