The website TechPowerUp the bios mod performed with a retail copy of the Radeon RX 480 in 4GB version of Sapphire. The appropriate video card is 8GB of ram, but half has been disabled in the BIOS. By bios of an 8GB version of the flash card to the 4GB model the disabled memory could be addressed. Tests of the site shows that the memory is actually used and Call of Duty: Black Ops III to see a small performance gain.

TechPowerUp has ATIFlash 2.74 line put , which the bios of the RX 480 video cards can be customized. The website published the bios of an 8GB version of the video card. Owners of a 4GB version of the RX 480 can use this to themselves at their own risk to get started. Users should first check whether their graphics card actually has the additional memory chips. For this, the cooler must be removed, which can only after the breaking of the seal. It might also be possible with software in order to figure out which there are memory chips on the card. TPU stresses that users who want to run the mod should know well how ATIFlash should use.

Early versions of the AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics with 4GB ram have in fact than advertised more ram. The video cards are exactly the same as the models with 8GB of ram and therefore as much memory, but half are disabled in the BIOS. Monday discovered some tweakers, the presence of additional memory chips. At the time, the flash tool was not available.

It is not clear how many cards with 4GB 8GB ram are in circulation. AMD has itself stated that such models were intended only for reviewers and the manufacturer says that versions in the store actually 4GB ram. That turns out not to be the case, but may have only the first batch of 4GB versions of the “extra” memory onboard. The corresponding versions appear at the time of writing to be sold everywhere.

Update 22:52: On Gathering of Tweakers let bertieX and Astennu know that it succeeded them to start at 4GB 8GB vram variants of the RX 480. It also appears that the box in which the cards are sent to the box of 8GB card, covered with a sticker with the 4GB designation. So put bart092 a picture of the box with his XFX RX 480, under the 4GB sticker shows the 8GB designation.
