Top500 list of supercomputers contains five Dutch systems




Netherlands state with five systems in the list of the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world. The so-called Descartes Surf Sara is on place 45 to find and use them to carry the national ranking, with a speed of 1.05 petaflops.

The other Dutch finishers are much lower in the survey found. Namely it is about the places 194, 347, 458 and 499 last fall narrowly within the limits.

The Tianhe-2 is for the fourth time in a row as the fastest computer in the world rated . A rate of 33.9 petaflops was more than enough for the supercomputer to finish at the top again in the top 500. The supercomputer was designed by the Chinese National University of Defense Technology. The United States has 231 systems still the largest share in the rankings. The number of European systems has grown from 116 to 130.

In total, 78 of the named systems use accelerators or coprocessors. Them make fifty using chips from Nvidia, three contain AMD Radeon chips and 25 systems run with Xeon Phi chips from Intel. It also contains 96 percent of the systems now processors with six or more cores and goes at 85 percent for chips with eight or more cores. HP provides the largest share of the list, with 179 systems, or 36 percent. IBM then comes with 153 systems, which 30 percent of the Top500 of the group originated.
