Torrent Clients and BitTorrent Sync can be used for DRDoS attacks

Popular torrent clients and BitTorrent Sync can be used to achieve a DRDoS attack. An attacker could use different protocols torrent clients and the Sync application to increase Internet traffic and send off a target.

Researchers from City University London set to BitTorrent Micro Transport Protocol, Distributed Hash Table, Message Stream Encryption and BitTorrent Sync can all be used to boost traffic through peers and send. Thus a distributed reflective denial of service attack can, or DRDoS be performed. An attacker may increase with this technique are of bandwidth by a factor of 50 to 120. The exploit is pretty easy because the protocols are not as resistant to ip BitTorrent logo spoofing. The researchers say that “millions of potential amplifiers’ online.

Torrent Clients uTorrent, and Vuze Mainline would be most vulnerable. The researchers have several parties already informed. Thus, BitTorrent has already eliminated the vulnerability in a beta version of its official client, but other parties as Vuze and uTorrent have not patched their client writes TorrentFreak.
