TRA publishes its annual assessment of the telecom market




The fourth annual report of the evaluation of the market during the period from 2009 to 2012.

The TRA issued its fourth annual report which summarizes the status of landline, mobile, and Internet in U.A.E., subscriber numbers, rates, royalties, and demand for services offered by measuring the utilization rate, for the period from 2009 to 2012, the report includes information on the contributions of the telecommunications sector in the national economy.

The Commission said the findings of the report were to show that the sector is still in great leaps in particular in 2012, as the number of fixed telephone subscriptions to 2 million, while mobile phone subscribers index continued to climb to 8.6 million by the end of 2012, where this rate which is one of the highest prevalence rates around the world.

According to the report, and during that period also mobile phone service sector revenues exceeded 20.4 billion dirhams. At the same time, the proportion of the consumption of mobile phone minutes to reach 5.6% during the year, the number of Internet subscriptions to 958000 a, and Internet subscriptions related to optical fiber cable network by 37.2%. In terms of Internet services and associated services, has increased subscriptions packages and fixed line services and television services by 17% in 2011, and by 31% in 2012.

Internet services revenue rose 15.2% in 2012 and the overall direction of the market on the rise with continued high numbers of the packages, India still topping in the preparation of outgoing international calls, followed by Pakistan, and the Philippines.
