Trend Micro warns of malware in Android app stores from third parties
According to Trend Micro are available in the app stores of parties other than Google more commonly found malicious apps gain root access. The company recommends the use of such app stores despite potential benefits whatsoever off.
The security company called the third-party app stores are often popular because obtaining apps without regional blockade and because developers often offer discounts through these stores the retail price. Still, risks would be associated with downloading apps this way. In the Google Play Store from the user in most cases assume that the downloaded software is safe, but would often dominate a less strict security policies in third-party app stores.
Specifically, Trend Micro calls the third-party stores Aptoide, Mobo Genius, mobile9 and 9apps. According to Trend Micro do malicious apps often pose as existing popular Google Play apps, to increase the chances of a download. The most noteworthy version of such an application is referred to by the company as androidos_libskin.a, which were found more than a thousand in the various third-party app stores. The malicious app is able to gain root access after download, and the software silently retrieves other malware on the device of the victim. This is then presented to the user as advertisements to entice users to download other applications or can be used to collect data.
The malware makes up for these two functions with different modules, silently and automatically run in the background. The first module will be responsible for obtaining root access via right_core.apk and retrieving other malware. The second module provides for displaying the ads with a certain interval so that the user can not determine which program is responsible.
