Turnover from streaming music grows in Belgium by 80 percent




Paid subscriptions to streaming music services like Spotify and Apple Music, made in the first half of 2016 in Belgium for revenue growth of over 80 percent. Meanwhile streaming takes a share of total music sales 34 percent on its behalf.

The total revenue from streaming music in Belgium amounted in the first half of 2016 17.9 million euros. A year ago it was 9.8 million. Revenues from streaming which has been left far behind from downloads: which amounted to just 7.94 million, a decrease of 17.5 percent.

Most sales are still damp with physical carriers: 27.09 million. But here too, there is a decline of 10.5 percent. The physical CD media is by far the most popular, but the vinyl sales increased by more than 28 percent, where it decreased from the CD. Total music sales for the half-year 52.93 million dollars, 6.5 percent more than a year earlier.

“Premium streaming now begins in our country to its advance and will become greater over time than CD sales,” concludes Olivier Maeterlinck, director of BEA.
