TV network Syfy allows crime series episodes especially for Oculus Rift




The American television channel SyFy is busy filming a crime series where five of the fifteen episodes are created specifically for the Oculus Rift. Of these episodes summaries are also made for viewers without Rift.

The news about the series, called Halcyon, among other things reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The Syfy logo fact that summaries of the VR episodes are made, seems to indicate that they are not considered an afterthought in the story of the series. How exactly five Fri episodes will exploit the potential of the technology, is currently unclear. The ten episodes that are not made specifically for the Oculus Rift, are shown in the usual channels SyFy. This channel is also available in the Netherlands. Samsung did recently with the VR series Gone for the Gear VR something similar.

Halcyon is set in 2058, a future where virtual reality is so common as the smartphone now. SyFy labels the series as a crime drama. Julie Dover protagonist is a detective who gets given the task to investigate the murder first true virtual reality; one person died in Fri, was found dead in real life. The production is in the hands of Secret Location Studios, a Canadian company that specializes in private to “combining the latest technology with traditional forms of telling stories.” Although the series is currently being filmed in Canada, it is not yet determine when to see it actually will be. The required Oculus Rift will be available in the first half of this year for 699 euros.
