Leergeld Because we were fifteen years, we began on October 1 with the action Computers 4 Kids. The aim was to gather the Leergeld foundation for working PCs to help wherever possible. Computers and hardware These PCs are badly needed and there were at the beginning of the action 650 applications from families for a computer at the foundation. Despite the wealth in our country every child can not long have a computer to do homework or to join the Internet.

Not hindered by any knowledge or experience with this kind of project we had the bar high and aim at working 750 PCs or laptops made. In the last quarter of 2013 massive amounts of hardware were donated by the Tweakers community. It proved to be a logistical challenge, not only a complete floor in Tweakers HQ came to be full, even branches of MyCom got boxes full of PC components.

Despite the huge number of donations quickly became apparent that it would be to achieve the goal. 750 systems difficult From many parts were more than enough pieces inside, but other hardware such as input devices and hard drives, this proved not the case. We wanted to stick to donating full working desktop system, including monitor, mouse and keyboard, and no half PCs deliver.

Eventually there were three buildfests needed to sort the hardware test, distribute, and to build a running operating system – Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, with instructions – to provide. The buildfests were successful and it was inspiring to see what is possible when tweakers their knowledge and expertise willingly and enthusiastically committed.

With buildfests we came to a total of 277 complete systems. This is helped 277 families and is as much as one-third of all applications running at Leergeld foundation, be granted. We are very pleased and proud of this result, which very many people have contributed. We had never achieved this without you, the Tweakers community. We’re writing to you to thank immensely, especially all the volunteers who helped. at buildfests

In addition, our thanks go to MyCom for the provision of the stores as collection points and we thank Recycle4All , Centric , Geek Squad , Alternate and Gigabyte .
What happens next?

Currently, all remaining parts are sorted by Recycle4All that old hardware and electronic waste sustainable and environmentally friendly processes in a responsible way in the Netherlands.
