Twitter suspends Alex Jones’s account for a week

Twitter has blocked the Twitter account of the controversial Alex Jones for the duration of seven days. Previously, other large companies such as Apple, Google and Facebook already went further: pages, channels and content from the conspiracy thinker were removed because of hate speech.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to CNN that the use of Alex Jones’s account is temporarily restricted . His account is still accessible, but Jones can not post anything for seven days. Twitter switched to this step when Jones said in a video on Tuesday that “the time is now right to step on the enemy before they operate under a false flag.”

Twitter indicated last week that Jones had posted more than a dozen messages in violation of the rules of Twitter. The platform demanded that these tweets be removed, something that Jones reluctantly responded to. He disagreed with Twitter’s statement that the conscious tweets were in violation of the rules.

It is unclear whether his account can be fully used again after the week-long period. Apple, Facebook and Google took more far-reaching steps against Alex Jones, removing pages, podcasts and video channels. For example, Facebook temporarily removed the pages of Alex Jones Channel, Alex Jones, InfoWars and Infowars Nightly News. According to Facebook, violent and inhumane language was used on the pages to characterize, for example, Muslims, transgenders and immigrants.
