Uber is investing half a billion dollars in private service plan

Uber is investing $ 500 million into its own map service to be less dependent on Google Maps and on the future of autonomous driving prepare cars, the Financial Times claims. Uber would also accommodate its Chinese operations by Didi Chuxing.

The FT claims to have heard one of his sources indicate that Uber is prepared to stabbing half a billion dollars into its own map service. The company has long been working to gather additional data in addition to the maps of Google Maps, where Uber until now uses. In the US, driving last year’s car company around that map the area, followed by vehicles in Mexico this year.

The company plans to expand the project to other countries, is in a blog post. Uber wants to analyze, among other traffic and obtain detailed information about locations where passengers can be picked up and dropped off.

China Uber adds its operations with those of its main competitor there, Didi Chuxin. Uber investors in China get a share of 20 percent in the resulting company and Didi would be $ 1 billion investment in Uber. It reports Bloomberg.
