Uber lets users control music in car with Spotify




Uber is partnering with Spotify. Consequently users hear a Spotify account automatically their own music when they are in an uber-car steps. The functionality is not immediately available in the Netherlands.

Spotify Last weekend were already rumors out about the announcement of the partnership. Monday afternoon confirmed Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and Uber CEO Travis Kala Nick rumors at a press conference. The new functionality is introduced Friday US time.

“It’s the first time we personalize the experience in the car,” said CEO Nick Kala. Users can change the music if desired. That can both from the Spotify- as the Uber app. “On the page of the app where you ordered your drive, you can also select the music,” said Spotify CEO Ek opposite Tweakers. Uber expect any negative reactions from drivers. “If someone enters the car with death metal and puts him very hard, the driver can always him down turn,” said Kala Nick.

Not all Uber cars are otherwise suitable for the new functionality; it is unclear how many suitable cars are going. Users will additionally need to first connect their Spotify account at Uber. That can only happen if a user has a Spotify Premium subscription.

The functionality is initially launched in ten cities, including Los Angeles, London and New York. Amsterdam and Rotterdam, the two Dutch cities where the taxi app is running, are not among them. However, a spokesman for Spotify promises that the functionality is rolled out in the coming weeks; exact dates, however, he does not dare to mention.
