United States asked for continued cooperation with Russia on ISS
NASA has proposed a “Roscosmos” to continue cooperation on the International Space Station until 2024. The current agreement on the ISS ends in 2020 .
As the director of manned space flight by NASA in Russia Sean Fuller, the United States hopes to extend the cooperation with Russia in the ISS program after 2020.
We have built a wonderful orbiting laboratory and hope to use its capabilities after 2020. This will achieve the best results, continue space exploration and development of new technologies – said Fuller in an interview with Russian newspaper “Izvestia”, adding that the talks on the use of the ISS after 2020 will be continued.
He also noted the long-term successful partnership of Russian and American medical and biological research groups and expressed hope for continuation of relations in this area.
In March of the following year to the ISS starts a year-long expedition with astronaut Scott Kelly and cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko. As part of this expedition is planned series of joint research. There is an opportunity to share the results of experiments to better understand the impact of space on the human body during long missions. We hope that this unique space laboratory will be available to all participants of the contract and after 2020 – Fuller said.
Currently, “Roskosmos” with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Foundation for Advanced Studies is developing “an entirely new concept for the future of space exploration.”
In turn, the United States State Department spokesman Jen Psak recalled the cooperation with Russia on a number of issues and expressed hope for continuation of the work started.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia plans to use the ISS until 2020. According to him, before making further decisions on the fate of the ISS, it is necessary to count all income and expenses associated with the station.
Also recall that the spring Rogozin recommended Americans get to the ISS using the trampoline. According to a senior officer became a sort of reaction to the statement by the United States of its desire to terminate the cooperation with Russia in all areas of space, except for the ISS.
