Upgrade old laptop: it profitable?
Upgrade old laptop: it profitable
Why the old and how old? In my case, two laptops age was 4 years. One of the laptops – large powerful series of “desktop replacement”, the second – a small, thin, low cost Windows-clone Mac Book Air sample in 2010.
Laptops in principle unsuitable for the upgrade. The most that can be done – replace conventional hard drive to a faster (HDD or SSD everyone decides for himself), and add more RAM. Perhaps all. There is another option instead of DVD-drive to put an additional data storage device and make a fast SSD system disk and volume HDD – file storage, but it will come only to those laptops that have a DVD-ROM drive.
However, there is one more detail to improve the – battery. The more that 4 years later the battery is usually more dead than alive. With the changes here as lucky. I was lucky and found a new battery for laptop (small) capacity already 2.5 times greater than the former. Were the original size, but enough for 2-3 hours and have a laptop could live for 5 hours away from the wall outlet to outlet.
Since the notebook would be used mainly to wander the Internet, it was decided to put a quick and nimble SSD capacity of only some 64 gigabytes (60 in reality). Choosing the disc capacity, it should be remembered: Windows can “eat” up to 30 gigabytes of memory (“eight” in the 64-bit version). Despite the lack of mode AHCI, recommended for SSDs, system boot speed and application response times increased 2 precisely.
The desire to increase the amount of memory (RAM) stumbled both laptops to limit the motherboard: 2 gigabytes in small and larger have 4 gigabytes. In the first case the maximum was standing, and the second would be to add gigabytes, but it is unlikely it would make sense. Furthermore, the standard version of Windows (32-bit) sees no more than 3.5 gigabytes of memory. To see more, want or dancing with a tambourine, or installing version 64 bit. Another problem with the RAM – date modules. Find them on sale (even b / y) is not easy.
As a result, the decision was taken following: buy a nettop (this is such maaaalenky computer) without the disk and RAM and put it in the main memory and HDD of a larger laptop. The notebook was sold for parts (he still flew plume keyboard, and do not want to change) for three thousand rubles (on them and was, in fact, bought a nettop).
Small laptop got speed drive new capacious battery and actually new life for another 2-3 years (until SSD drives differ survivability). Costs amounted to 5000 rubles. Buying a new laptop with the same screen size would require at least 3 times more.
As a result of the need to know about your laptop, making a decision about upgrading? Motherboard model and its ability to model the battery and memory and their presence in the sale, the type of data storage (typically form factor of 2.5 inches, but then put the disc by 1.8 inches).
In our own experience say that disassemble the laptop – a simple task for the thinking person. The main thing is to know that under the keyboard devices are additional fixing screws. The keyboard itself is snapped-clothespins (someone like) that can be accurately podkovyrnut tweezers. Raise the keyboard very carefully – it keeps connecting train. The other end is attached to the pin on the motherboard.
Some notebook bottom of the case there is a separate cover, hiding the hard drive dies or RAM. In this case, replacement of parts is greatly facilitated.
Record all your actions or take pictures, so it will be clear how the item was attached to a detachment. Plus there are plenty of web articles and videos with detailed analysis of the various models of laptops and tablets. Maybe even be able to find your model. Here, in fact, all the considerations about upgrades older laptops. Good luck!Viewing:-219
