Usb-c (haos) disentangled Eight usb-c-docks compared

Laptops have become thinner over the years and in 2015 the first laptops came on the market with a housing that was thinner than a conventional USB port. Fortunately, there was already a solution for this: usb-c. Usb-c has the advantage that you can not only hang USB devices, but that you can do much more with it. Initially it seemed that on that one connector you would have 10Gbit / s data transfer, could load 100 watts and at the same time control peripherals, such as external screens.

Usb-c That was indeed how the USB-IF , the promoter group for usb, put it on the market, but not every usb-c connection proves to have all these characteristics. Most desktops and smartphones do not have it and even laptops do not support all those possibilities. That may also be the reason that we still have few monitors, but also few keyboards and mice on USB-c. The lack of clarity does not make it interesting to make the switch. Go on; you are used to a device that works as soon as the plug fits physically. Sometimes a device works halfway, for example if you connect a USB 3.0 drive to a USB 2.0 port, but at least your peripherals still work.

This is different with usb-c. If you have a cheap laptop, chances are you can not charge it with a usb-c charger. Are you one of the few people with a display with usb-c connection, then the chances are that you do not get a picture on the same cheap laptop. The same applies to your desktop PC, which in most cases only sends a USB 3.0 signal over the USB connector, but no image or other things. The question is therefore; what about usb-c? What can you connect to, why and how can you recognize the correct connection? In this article we look extensively at the possibilities of usb-c and we test eight USB docks to eventually answer the question of what you can connect to which laptop and what you need for that.
