Sunset at Montmajour
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has officially recognized by Vincent van Gogh author of the painting “Sunset in Monmazhure.” The scenery was created during a stay by the Dutch artist in southern France in 1888. For a long time, painting was considered a forgery.
According to director of the Van Gogh Axel Ruger, many consider “Sunset in Monmazhure” the high point of the creative development of Van Gogh. In the most productive period of his life the artist painted two more pictures: “Bedroom in Arles” and the famous “Sunflowers”.
The authenticity of the “sun to Monmazhure” was confirmed after much research.
We had art-historical research was to study the style, the context of the use of materials and techniques. All our findings point to the authorship of Van Gogh – Ruger says, noting that the most convincing evidence of the authenticity of the painting has become the reference to “the sunset Monmazhure” Van Gogh in a letter, which was addressed to his younger brother Theo, and is dated July 4, 1888.
For years, experts have refused to recognize the authenticity of this painting. In 1991, the Museum announced a fake job. The work that the artist was once considered a failure, Ruger is now called a masterpiece, and the discovery the greatest event in the history of the museum.
New Van Gogh painting will be exhibited in the museum of the artist on September 24.
Previously, scientists found under one of the paintings by Picasso for another job.
