Various areas in the Dutch Green Heart are receiving fiber optic networks

Several rural outdoor areas in the Green Heart will receive a fiber-optic network. Providers Fiberglass Outside and Glass Wire install fiber optic networks at, among others, Oudewater and Woerden.

Glasdraad has announced that the required number of fiber optic inscriptions at Woerden-Oost has reached the set lower limit of forty percent. At an earlier stage, these percentages have already been achieved in the sub-areas Oudewater , Bodegraven-Reeuwijk and Woerden-West. In this region, Fiber Optic is also active outside of building fiber optic networks. This company previously announced that it will install fiber optic in this region. The deadline was here on July 9, but according to the company there was already ‘sufficient potential’ before the deadline to be able to report that fiber is coming.

According to a spokesman for Glasdraad, the percentage of addresses in the various regions that have to register does not reach the usual fifty but forty, because of the competition in this region. For example at Woerden-Oost residents can register with both GlasDraad and Glasvezel Buitenaf. The municipality has left the construction of fiber optic to the market; according to the spokesman, the municipality could not make a choice between the two providers. At Woerden-West, this overlap would not be there, because Fiberglass Buitenaf has withdrawn here according to the spokesman.

In April it became clear that the outer areas to the north of Alphen aan den Rijn are receiving a fiber-optic network. It concerns the outer areas of Kaag and Braassem, Nieuwkoop and Teylingen-Oost. Here the threshold value of fifty percent was achieved. The construction is being prepared here at the time of writing and, according to Glasdraad, all registered households still have a fiber-optic connection before the summer of 2019.

GlasDraad Groene Hart is a collaboration between fiber optic contractor Mabin and investment company Tinc . Fiberglass Outside is the property of fiberglass investor CAIW, the former CIF. Fiber operator CIF and Caiway came into Swedish hands early this year; EQT then took over the companies from the Rabo Bouwfonds Communication Infrastructure Fund.
