ReactOS, an operating system that should provide an alternative to include Windows 2000 and Windows XP to run Windows software, has received a major update again after ten years. Nevertheless, the project is not yet in beta after eighteen years.

With ReactOS users would Windows XP software can be run without the unsafe and no longer supported operating system to sit himself. The project is still in the alpha stage. The developers carry version 0.4 to two deceased developers, including the 2011 deceased Dutchman Gé of Geldrop.

The developers give no reason why version 0.4 was delayed so long, but one of the reasons is that there is an internal audit done around 2007 to make ReactOS would not get into trouble with Microsoft.

In the meantime, there is interest remained in the system, especially from Russia, because of fears of espionage as much as possible links with US companies as Microsoft is trying to break. The Russian government chose therefore ReactOS last year to one of the possible Windows alternatives.

Version 0.4 adds include support for wireless networking and USB increasing. It is unknown if ReactOS 0.5 should appear.
