Videogame voice actors consider strike
The voice actors of the American labor union for actors and voice actors, SAG-AFTRA, consider to go on strike if not met certain requirements. The voice actors yearn include a percentage of the proceeds of the video games in which they work.
The American SAG – AFTRA and video game voice actors are now even with videogame publishers under what is called the Interactive Media Agreement, an agreement between employers and employees that dates from the 90s. The union wants the agreement essentially complete with performance bonuses based on the number of copies bought from a game extra charge and limited hours for stressful jobs, and the obligatory presence of a stunt coordinator on motion capture. Finally, the union more transparency about the tasks for which its members do audition. At this time, they get told by the union not advance how many hours, sessions, workload and salary to expect.
SAG-AFTRA logo The union is in February and in June this year with several major publishers such as EA Games, Activision, Disney and Warner Bros. went to the table. None of the two meetings, an agreement was struck.
The publishers have made counter-proposals and according to SAG-AFTRA voice actors can impose a fine of $ 2500 if they ‘fail’ to do their job. According to the union may be reading a text message while working already count as default. In addition, the publishers want the impresarios of the voice actors 50,000 to $ 100,000 may impose fines if they do not send some smaller auditions their voice actors. Before that, they want to also be able to withdraw the license of a trade union impresario. Furthermore, the publishers will be able to accept actors from outside the union for voice and motion-capture work. This is the union, in turn, did not agree.
Because the two parties do not seem to come out, will vote on a strike by the union. Therefore 75% of the voting members of SAG-AFTRA must vote for the strike. All members of the union is it forbidden to do work in their profession and to actors who are not members of the union will also be asked to stop work. The result of the ballot is not yet known. Voice Actors Steve Blum, Jennifer Hale and Phil Lamarr example, have voted in favor.
By Game Informer put both parties that they observe now a media blackout. Probably get the media so continue to hear nothing apart from an announcement of a possible strike by the voice actors and a future bottom line.Viewing:-146
