Kroll founded the video service Vine with Rus Yusupov in 2012. On the site, users could upload videos of up to six seconds, which played in a loop. The idea of such concise content is reminiscent of Twitter and the microblogging service also took over Vine in 2012, even before the service was opened to the public. In 2015, Vine had 200 million users per month, but Twitter started in 2016 with the closure of Vine. A successor is in the making , but this is not from Kroll and Yusupov, but from the third Vine founder Dom Hofmann.

Kroll worked for a while after Twitter, but left there at the time of accusations of inappropriate behavior towards colleagues. This caused him some trouble finding investors for his next project. The New York Times spoke to Kroll’s father, who stated that the entrepreneur was “troubled and hurt” by this turn. In the face of Axios , Kroll promised that things would run differently for his next company.

HQ Trivia was the next project of Kroll and Yusupov. A live quiz that users can use on their smartphones and with which they can win cash prizes. Participants have ten seconds per question. The game show has its own host and, according to the App Store page , occasionally famous hosts such as The Rock, Robert De Niro and Gordon Ramsay. The app is also available for Android . HQ Trivia has been online since 2017 and initially enjoyed considerable popularity, although that has since been somewhat removed, writes Ars Technica .

His companion Yusupov says on Twitter that Kroll was a “friendly soul with a big heart” and that he will be missed. Opposite The New York Times, a spokesperson for HQ Trivia also expresses its dismay at the loss of their chief executive officer .
