Virgin Galactic reaches a height of 90km with first space passenger

Virgin Galactic with a ‘test passenger’ aboard the spacecraft SpaceShipTwo VSS Unity has reached a height of 89.9km. This has been achieved in accordance with the standard used by the US Air Force. This is the first time that a passenger has come along.

Virigin Galactic reports on Twitter that astronaut Beth Moses as a passenger of VSS Unity Friday was the 571st person ever to travel to space. She is in rank the highest astronaut instructor of the Richard Branson company and experienced weightlessness for some time during the flight. It is the first time that, instead of the usual two pilots, a third person went on board the SpaceShipTwo.

The height of 89.9 is more than 7km higher than the flight of 13 December last year , with SpaceShipTwo with the reached 82.7km for the first space. On the way to space, the spacecraft reached a speed of mach 3.

The Friday flight was the fifth motorized, supersonic test flight. In 2018 the first motorized tests began, with the spacecraft in April, May, July and December successively reaching heights of 25.7; 34.9; 52 and 82.7 kilometers.

Virgin Galactic maintains the norm of the US Air Force as far as the boundary of space is concerned. This part of the American armed forces considers everything above 80 kilometers as space. This differs from the Kármán line, the 100 kilometer limit, which is seen internationally as the beginning of space.

The company is reportedly ready at the end of this year to carry out the first space flights with paying customers. For a ticket a tourist has to pay $ 250,000. Richard Branson said earlier that he wants to make his first flight on July 16, with which he wants to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11.
