Find a Question:
Vodafone government favors KPN auction conditions DVB frequencies
The government favors KPN with the conditions for the auction of the frequencies currently used for terrestrial channels. That allows rival Vodafone in response to the public consultation on the legislation before the auction.
The conditions for the auction states that a new entrant must offer a TV service that is similar to DVB on February 1, 2017, six months after the auction. According to Vodafone is not possible. “This requirement appears in practice only to be filled by using the existing DVB-T network of KPN, by buying the network or enable KPN as a service provider. Building a new network is not realistic both in terms of timing (expected to be six months from issuance and authorization), and the investments required. ”
A different technology than the use DVB-T, according to Vodafone also not an option for DVB. “Although in the consulted document talks about a ‘technology neutral’ license (seems, ed.) To allow it only in DVB-T in practice. The entrant will also have to make arrangements with KPN regarding DVB-T -Customers KPN. ”
Vodafone therefore wants to see in the conditions of the permit that the company throughout the period that the permit receives DVB-T should use. The provider points out that a European proposal to allow the frequencies 470 to 694MHz, mobile communications. If that happens, KPN has suddenly at a low price in the hands of the lowest frequencies for mobile internet.
KPN competitor wants the government to postpone the auction for a few years and let offering until then KPN DVB. Then the frequencies should be auctioned with the possibility to use mobile communication.
KPN and the authorities have not yet responded to the response of Vodafone at auction. The auction for the DVB-T frequencies should take place later this year. The number of customers of DVB has declined sharply in recent years, presumably mainly because the price has increased and there have been more alternatives.Viewing:-157
