Vodafone will discuss merger with Ziggo in the Netherlands




Vodafone is currently in discussions with Liberty Global, the parent company Ziggo, a joint venture in the Netherlands. The telecom company declares that it is not certain if and when there will be an agreement.

The talks between Vodafone Group and Liberty Global go about establishing a joint venture in the Netherlands which would consist of a combination of the two local companies. That would mean in practice that Vodafone and Ziggo in the Netherlands will continue as one company, with mobile and fixed services.

Vodafone reacts to rumors from Bloomberg on Tuesday. Vodafone and Liberty Global loved even though talks on a merger in the Netherlands in 2014 and 2015. Which bounced then on, but the two groups were then according to the FT already prepared possibly to reopen negotiations.

Liberty Global is interested in the mobile network of Vodafone Netherlands. Ziggo currently operates in the mobile market with Ziggo Mobile. A year ago, the CEO of Liberty Global, John Malone, the group’s mobile providers was about to take in countries where the company is large enough, such as the Netherlands. In addition, he also mentions the possibilities to go together with Vodafone. “We looked at it from our position and to achieve substantial benefits,” said he then.
