Voice calls WhatsApp will work even in 2G-networks




This week, some users have reported the appearance in the official application for Android WhatsApp function of voice calls. “Polygon” for testing new technology has become India. Thus, the popular messenger is about to invade the territory of Skype and Viber.


Resource TechCrunch published some screenshots and video of the function. The application is activated after one user called columnist edition.

Judging from the users data, WhatsApp is a function call, speakerphone, volume shortcut key. It is possible to continue to send messages during a call. Allegedly testing of voice calls is not limited to Android-version of WhatsApp, buttons for making VoIP-calls and appeared for some users iOS-app.


Voice calls are available in the new version of WhatsApp, but for the most part they are not available yet. Apparently, this is due to the fact that the new features are not yet up to the end debugged and VoIP-connection test on a small group of randomly selected users.

According to TechCrunch, when connected to 3G-network function calls WhatsApp works flawlessly, the sound quality is superior not only conventional voice calls, but FaceTime on iPhone and Mac. Moreover, the technology works well even in the outdated network 2G – it certainly will allow the service to quickly become popular in areas where 3G coverage is not very great.
