The Director’s Cut of Wasteland 2 comes out on October 13 on Steam for Windows, Linux and OS X. In addition, visiting the Xbox One and PlaySation 4 versions of the game on October 16th. For players who already have Wasteland 2, the upgrade is free.

Chris Keenan, head of the Wasteland 2 project development studio InXile Entertainment, announced the news in an update on the Kickstarter page for the game. About the free upgrade for gamers who already have the game on your PC or Mac, Keenan states that “anyone who has then Wasteland 2 of which digital retailer also get the free upgrade.”

The Director’s Cut of the game introduces so-called quirks, or traits, which are not good or bad per se, but simply influence the gameplay. In the Fallout games where Wasteland 2 is closely related, these are known as traits. In addition, new perks are introduced and precision strikes. These are aimed shots on specific parts of the body, so as for example to make an enemy immobile. This is also known Fallout games. The voice-overs of many NPC’s have also expanded and fights and items are rebalanced. Finally, the game engine Unity upgraded to 5, which is accompanied by new environments, lighting effects and character models.

Wasteland 2 is made by InXile Entertainment, a studio set up by several game developers that have worked in the past with games like Wasteland and Fallout 1 and 2. Wasteland is often seen as the spiritual predecessor of the Fallout series. However, the rights of that series are owned by Bethesda and InXile has decided to go with the Wasteland license to work. In 2012, at the end of the Kickstarter campaign for the game, InXile has more than 3.8 million raised for the development of Wasteland 2.

Finally Chris Keenan reports that the Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut gets a demo booth at the upcoming game fair GamesCom in Cologne from 6 to 9 August. Tweakers will organize like last year Tweakers Express, where a large group of community and crew together towards Cologne is a private train packed with things like LAN parties and lounges. GamesCom itself is sold out, but through the last Tweakers Express cards may still won be.
