Wear Android: Google is fully committed to smart watches




If we believe, handset manufacturers, analysts and marketers smart watches in the years ahead will be a big deal. That prediction, however, we hear all years and models that you can already get now – a few exceptions – not a great commercial success yet. Google wants to change this and seems to risk a serious effort.

One reason behind the lack of a breakthrough is possible that there is no standardization, and every smart watch on its own platform which runs its own apps need to be written. Samsung uses for its latest Galaxy Gear-smart watch the Linux-based Tizen, Sony SmartWatch are used for a proprietary operating system and the software of the Pebble is based on FreeRTOS.

Google wants to create order in the chaos with a new version of its Android platform Android Wear specially designed for wearables like smart watches. This platform should be the basis for a whole series of smart watches and other devices from different manufacturers. Large technology companies such as Intel, Qualcomm and Broadcom have rallied behind the platform and the manufacturers LG and Motorola have promised within a few months to bring all out.
