Not long ago, because the hard drive manufacturer Western Digital has expanded its color and product portfolio by another model. The manufacturer marks its hard drives for some time of a color palette for the various scenarios, in November 2015 they built the whole thing a bit to. Thus, the WD Red is for use in Network Attached Storage, whereas classical WD Green has been integrated into WD Blue, which is intended for normal end users. But there is also the WD Black. WD Black drives to belong to the family of PC drives, however, are designed specifically for high-performance applications such as gaming and workstations, as well as for the compilation of high-end systems for creative professionals. Probably not to be found in private households: the WD Gold.

The WD Gold was developed according to Western Digital specifically for data centers and a wide range of other applications. Included are server and storage of small to medium-sized companies as well as rack mount data center and storage solutions.

Another new feature is now the 10 TB issue, before you could get “only” 8 TB. WD shares in his message that could reduce the power consumption in this model through the Helioseal Technology, here called the figure of eight percent compared to 8 TB issue. Also called better performance – up to 21 percent sequential increase in performance compared to previous generation (WD Gold 8TB of data centers).

On the websites of WD, no new model with 10 TB is the hour listed, so you can not see where the price on Amazon is missing ours yet. But the true is likely to find the slogan “Gold” in the higher spheres, the 8 TB output is already at around 600 euros. By comparison, the NAS variant WD Red is 8TB at 319 euros.
