Opinion: And what if the new iPhone really worth the money?
New iPhones are expensive and really hard to argue with. The overwhelming majority of our readers agreed that the price that Apple asks for its smartphones cannot be justified either by the Face ID interface, or by a smart display, or even by breakthrough hardware. After all, in the end, didn’t Apple offer us the most breakthrough solutions on the iPhone three or four years ago for almost half the money? Let’s figure it out.

Since we can’t know for sure how much money Apple spent on developing the A12 processor, the stunning OLED display, which is recognized as the best on the market, and the Face ID face recognition technology, which is one of a kind – can be used to confirm payments, we will build on more mundane data. For example, the cost of the components of the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 7, the price difference of which is almost twofold.

“Cost” of iPhone 7
It is known that the cost of the components of the iPhone 7 in the base configuration in the month of its release was $ 220 with a smartphone retail price of $ 650. This means that Apple received almost three times more for each smartphone sold than it spent. Of course, of this money, the company was forced to cover the current costs of production, logistics, advertising and research, but it was unlikely then that amount was more than now.

It should be remembered at the same time that the cost of the components of the iPhone 6s, which entered the market a year earlier than the iPhone 7, was 188 dollars at all, despite the fact that the price of both models was identical. It turns out that the first Apple smartphone with 3D Touch brought Apple even more money than the subsequent model. That’s just about this for some reason, few people remember.

“Cost” iPhone XS Max
The components of the iPhone XS Max at 256 GB, in turn, cost Apple 443 dollars at a smartphone price equal to 1249 dollars. Even if we forget that the amount of memory of the flagship being investigated is not the base 64 GB, but 256 GB (and, as we know, Apple earns the most in memory), the company’s profit is less than that provided by the iPhone 7 at that time especially iPhone 6s.

How did it happen, ask? Everything is very logical, because the cost of some components of the iPhone XS Max has increased many times over compared to the iPhone 7. Here are a couple of examples:

iPhone XS Max
Display – 90.5 dollars;
Battery – $ 14.5;
Processor and network cards – $ 72.
iPhone 7
Display – $ 43;
Battery – 2.5 dollars;
Processor and network cards – $ 34.
Why are new iPhones so expensive
And so it is in almost everything, and in fact we did not consider the costs of developing new technologies, because it is absolutely clear that the iPhone XS Max received the title of a smartphone with the best display on the market for a reason, and Face ID is not in vain the most advanced face recognition interface that you can even confirm contactless payments.

I hope the arguments presented at least a little convince you that Apple is committed to giving us the best product possible, and not robbing you. Of course, as technology develops, they become cheaper, but do not forget that the price reduction occurs only when something more breakthrough comes onto the market. Such as Apple.
