WhatsApp is working on a photo search function to google images

WhatsApp is working on a function to search images sent in a chat online. This option directs the user to Google, where the results are displayed. Maybe WhatsApp wants to make it easier to check fake news.

To google a message, the user must select it, writes WABetaInfo . Whoever does that will see three options. “Reply privately” and “Message” are already in the current version of WhatsApp; ‘Search image’ will be added later. The user is then notified that the image is being uploaded to Google. WhatsApp then opens the phone browser, where Google displays the results of the search. WABetaInfo only writes about the Android function; it is as yet unknown whether the option also comes to iOS.

Perhaps WhatsApp is developing this function to prevent the spread of fake news on the platform. If you can google a photo directly from the app, you may be more inclined to verify a message. In recent months, WhatsApp has introduced various measures to combat fake news on the platform .

WABetaInfo emphasizes that the option is still being tested by WhatsApp and is not yet available for (beta) users. It is not yet known when the option will become available for WhatsApp users. This also applies to three icons that represent male, female and transgender. Beta users can immediately send a new transgender flag.
