WhatsApp stop supporting BlackBerry, Symbian and old Android versions




Whatsapp has indicated that it is discontinuing support for multiple mobile operating systems. The most notable here are the BlackBerry OS, including the relatively new BlackBerry 10.

On his blog gives the popular instant messaging service, explaining the decision. Because Android, iOS and Windows Mobile 10 today almost all smartphone sales accounting for other operating systems have become less important for the Facebook daughter. For this reason, at the end of this year stopped supporting eg BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10, and Nokia operating systems such as Symbian S60.

Too old Android versions are no longer supported by the end of 2016. This involves Android 2.1 and 2.2, which are now about six years old. The outdated Windows Phone 7.1 will receive at the end of the year no longer updates.

According Whatsapp it is not possible for these operating systems in order to develop new features, because they would not be supported. The chat service advises users of obsolete software to buy a new smartphone to have a guarantee that Whatsapp also can be used after 2016.
