With the release of Windows Anniversary Update 10 may also be the first Win32 programs from third parties shall be published in the Windows Store. According to a report from Evernote.

Evernote replace its touch app from the Windows Store by full desktop app and thereby reports that “Windows 10 Anniversary Update support for Win32 desktop apps brings to the Windows Store.” Developers can convert their Win32 programs with a tool to appx package in which the software can pick up on APIs from Universal Windows platform, such as those for Cortana and Live Tiles. Also this OneClick installation makes possible through the Windows Store. Microsoft calls this Centennial project.

Not everyone is in favor of this option. A well-known critic Tim Sweeney, founder of Epic Games. In an interview with Edge this week reiterated his concerns that Microsoft Win32 software will phase out completely. If the distribution in the future exclusively should be available for the Windows Store, Windows PC would be basically a closed platform and Microsoft exclude the probability for example, Steam, as argued Sweeney.

The Anniversary Update Windows 10 appears August 2nd. On July 29, Microsoft will stop offering to Windows 7 and 8 free upgrade to Windows 10.
