WSJ: Retina displays for Apple iPad Mini will provide Samsung
Apple , most likely will order a high-definition screens for the next generation iPad Mini with a rival company Samsung, writes the business paper The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources. It is expected that the new Retina-tablet goes into production later this year.
Samsung will be the only one who will supply the displays for Apple iPad Mini Retina. Apple is also counting on LG Display and Sharp, previously considered as the sole supplier, the source said.
According to preliminary data, the new model will retain the same form factor with a screen diagonal of 7.9 inches. In addition the company is considering the release of several color options rear cover plate.
The report said that Apple has had some production problems. Analysts and suppliers expect the delay in the release of a new mini-tablet. Presumably, iPad Mini Retina will be available until 2014.
In June, the resource Digitimes reported that Apple has not yet decided on the use of the Retina display in the iPad Mini due to problems with supply. In this regard, market analysts from Citi Research and NPD DisplaySearch pushed the release of iPad Mini Retina in 2014. Both firms predict the appearance of this year’s updated version of the iPad Mini, but without a screen Retina.
This situation makes us think about the inability of Apple to distance itself from the South Korean giant in the field of consumer electronics, Apple competitor and partner in one person. With the iPhone, the situation is somewhat different. Apple has decided to order chips for the next generation iPhone in different Asian suppliers, which will reduce the dependence from Samsung.
Earlier it was reported that Apple is testing the enhanced screens for the iPhone and iPad .
