An Xposed module makes it possible to run the Google Pixel function Assistant on devices with Android 6.0. So far succeeded only on smartphones with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, but that is no longer required.

Developer Max Rumpf joined in the source code of the Google app on the Pixels and added some bits of code to the Xposed module AndroidN-ify, a module that some tweaks and interface changes from Android 7.0 enables on Android 6.0. The build of AndroidN-ify is not to be installed from the Xposed-beheerapp but is it online.

Google Assistant will appear as a system function on the pixel phones from Google and thereby replaces Now On Tap. Previously appeared already possible to activate Assistant on other phones with Android Nougat by adding a line to the build.prop file. With the Xposed module Assistant is useful for many more users. Only a handful of models of Android phones running Android Nougat, while many more Android devices Marshmallow on board.

Users need root access and install the Xposed Framework to use the module. Dutch must also set the system language in English and discard the data from the Google app before it works.

Google Assistant is a further development of the familiar Google Now, the software information from sources such as calendar, e-mail and the Web used to provide consumers with information on the times when they might need.
