Yahoo is preparing to sell 3000 patents

Yahoo is preparing to sell a portfolio of approximately 3,000 patents. The Internet company thus hopes to raise more than one billion dollars says a source who spoke to The Wall Street Journal.

Among the patents would also Yahoo’s original search technology sit out in 1996. Several potentially interested companies received in recent weeks all offers of Yahoo. The first preliminary bids must be in by mid-June.

Investment Bank Blackstone IP, according to the source, the bank may lead the sale. In a statement to The Wall Street Journal says Yahoo itself that this is a unique opportunity for companies in the Internet industry for some of the basic patents underlying web searches and advertising, buying.

In addition to the sale of patents is the Internet company trying to sell the main part of themselves, namely Internet activities. At present it seems Verizon Communications that $ 3 billion on the Internet activities of Yahoo in the second round offered the leading candidate. Reportedly there would be a third round of bids in the pipeline.

The total value of Yahoo is estimated at about $ 35 billion, but that is mainly accounted for by the equity it has in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan.
