Yahoo! Weather app for Android now available in chic
Since mid-April is already the iOS version of the new Yahoo! Weather app available . She won an Apple Design Award (to which you are very proud of the developers) and surprised with a completely fresh design. This design is now available in the Android app. A real eye-catcher, no matter how bad the weather, are the background images that change depending on the time of day and weather conditions.
In principle Yahoo! Weather a user-generated app, because the images that fill the entire display from the Flickr group Project Weather originate. So there are beautiful real-world recordings. If an image comes from the community, you can see on Flickr logo bottom right. This is clickable and leads to the profile page of the photographer. The link does not exist, default, pictures are shown.
A few facts for Yahoo! weather app, there is also. Most commonly, the weather of the users by 8 by 21 clock in the morning and evening clock is checked. Most of the pictures of the Flickr group come from Brazil, South America, France and Germany. At the end of the second quarter 2013, the Yahoo! Weather app ranked No. 1 in 20 countries, the most popular weather apps. The daily use of Yahoo! Weather supply has increased by 150% since the release of the iOS version.
I had the opportunity to talk with Marco Wirasinghe, Director of Mobile Products, Yahoo! Inc. via the app. The idea for the app sprang a Yahoo! Hack Day within 24 hours. That such an idea with an Apple Design Award is excellent, of course, is the icing on the cake. Marco sees weather as something emotional, users connect with experiences and the weather conditions. The focus of the app should be on daily operations. They checked with the app not just the temperature or air pressure, you will experience the weather at a glance.
Also, the symbiosis between Yahoo! and the users is an issue. The Flickr community makes the Yahoo! Weather app what it is. At the same time, the images of the community get a lot of attention, which in turn is an advantage to the individual photographers. The larger the community, the better the app.
One would at Yahoo! the Android app by the way not to be understood as a port of the iOS app. The operation and functions are the same one on one, but the Android app is designed from the ground up from scratch. Since the iOS app does not follow the design guidelines of iOS, you can build two identical apps, with no preference for a specific optical system.
The design language of the app has been extensively developed. Minimalism despite range was the goal that was definitely achieved. The app is actually just as good for a quick look at the current temperature, as for a more detailed analysis of the weather. A prediction can be accessed for 10 days, and there are details such as wind chill, humidity, visibility and UV index.
On a zoomable map may be allowed, temperatures and wind over a large area display. Wind speed and barometric pressure are also displayed, the display for the precipitation provides information about impending rain. Sunrise and sunset are also on board.
The individual maps where the information is located, can be freely arranged. Is an example, the precipitation important than the wind speed, this information can easily place above.
The app works overall very well thought out and can be use clean (tested on 4 Nexus One and HTC mini). Even if it is “only” a weather app is (by the way the Germans are crazy about weather apps, said Marco), makes the use of this simple fun because everything is easy. I can only recommend you to install the app on your smartphone, whether iOS or Android. If no place for your photos from Flickr to be present, but simply transgress in the group and become part of the most beautiful weather app.
The new Yahoo! Weather app should end up as an update on your Android device, at least it was in the pre-release like this. This may of course be that it is not yet available to everyone at the moment.
