Gemalto, a specialist in digital security, has worked with Daimler to support its new Daimler-based digital car keys for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Gemalto explained that the new solution for the German car company gives drivers the freedom to lock their cars and unlock and start operation by using their smart phones based on NFC technology. The Gemalto TSH solution enables seamless and secure operation over the ethernet of digital keys for any type of handset that supports the solution.

The key is securely downloaded to a secure component through Gemalto’s TSH solution, allowing drivers to lock / unlock their cars as soon as their smartphones are placed on the knob. The engine can be operated by phone in the charging tray on the instrument panel and pressing the start button. This solution works even when the phone battery is empty, thus eliminating the need to carry a traditional key.

As an integral part of the ” Mercedes me connect” program, the digital car key will seamlessly communicate with services that meet mobility requirements and digital lifestyles at the moment.

“The digital age makes it imperative for companies to pool their expertise to build strong relationships with all stakeholders within the automotive ecosystem,” said Christine Cavellioli, Vice President of Gemalto’s new mobility solutions. “For Daimler AG, The goal is fully supported by our solutions, enabling them to deliver innovative services to their customers through their preferred device, without compromise in terms of security. “
