Ziggo launches pilot project with ‘much higher’ internet speed

Ziggo soon begin an experiment in which a much higher “Internet speed is offered. An unknown number of customers allowed the higher internet speed test. How high the new speed, is not known.

Ziggo Ziggo confirms the test when asked by Tweakers after some customers in a letter informed about the trial. Customers who are approached can sign up to test the higher speed. At what speed it exactly, Ziggo does not indicate. In the letter to customers Ziggo keep it on a “much higher” rate.

Ziggo spokesman Gradus Vos emphasized that the test does not mean that the speed will be put in place, though the letter to customers what firmer. “Soon ziggo introduces web with a much higher rate,” it says in the letter. “The test should prove what we possibly going to introduce,” says Fox spokesman. “We constantly look for new speeds.”

At this moment, Ziggo offers an internet speed of 180 megabits per second. UPC, whose parent company has taken Ziggo offers a speed of 200Mbit / s. UPC and Ziggo will later this year to merge into a single provider; it is therefore obvious that UPC is also going to offer the “much higher” rate. Whether this happens is not known; UPC was not available for comment Wednesday. In 2013 showed that all UPC test speeds of 500 megabits per second.

With the higher speeds will Ziggo presumably better compete with fiberglass, that much higher speeds in some places in the Netherlands, provides cable. Thus provides the small provider Tweak in Almere and Enschede Internet with a download speed of 1 Gbit / s. KPN offers over fiber speeds up to 500Mbit / s symmetrically on.
