Facebook wants to provide more of its services with end-to-end encryption in the coming years. That says director Mark Zuckerberg in an explanation of the quarterly figures. He confirmed that Facebook wants to make his Messenger compatible with Instagram and WhatsApp.

It is not a project that will be released this year, but the possibility to send people messages in WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger from the same backend will appear next year or later, says Zuckerberg in the notes . That will be done through end-to-end encryption. “People like this in WhatsApp,” says the Facebook CEO.

That is why, according to Zuckerberg, end-to-end encryption is the direction that Facebook should take with more services. “I think there’s a chance to work with what we’ve already done with WhatsApp, instead of doing it differently in different chat apps, so that encryption works consistently in everything we do.” WhatsApp works with the Signal protocol for the encryption of messages. This works with the encryption algorithm 256-bit-AES, which is known as secure.

By merging the backend of the different chat apps, traders on Facebook Marketplace can easily contact customers via WhatsApp instead of Messenger. Facebook also wants to better protect the messages from tens of millions of users who use Messenger as the standard app for SMS on Android with the step. Zuckerberg announced his plans in an explanation of the quarterly figures . These figures showed that the number of active Facebook users in Europe is rising again.
